Teeny Yoginis, A Toddler-and-Me Yoga Class for Children 18 Months to 3 Years
About this Event
Welcome to Teeny Yoginis, a Toddler-and-Me yoga class designed to facilitate an enjoyment of yoga for little learners who are just getting used to using their bodies while simultaneously fostering their social emotional development. Partner yoga creates a fun way to strengthen the physical and energetic connection between caregiver and child Why should kids (and caregivers) do yoga? The benefits of yoga for children include:
- Physical fitness and coordination
- Facilitation of right/left brain coordination
- Self-awareness, both physically and emotionally
Using music, large motor movement, yoga poses, breathing, and games we will meet each child at his or her developmental level to develop brain coordination, gross motor, fine motor, language, and listening skills. Mindfulness practices are integrated throughout, helping yoginis with their developing attention, focus, and self-regulation. We will explore the use of techniques such as breathing, guided relaxation, and meditation, for both caregiver and child, to help calm the body AND mind. By modeling these strategies, we give children the tools to cope with daily stress and anxiety and develop resiliency while engaging in our own self-care. We tap into children’s social-emotional development by incorporating emotional vocabulary, peer interaction, and positive self talk while fostering acceptance, confidence, and communication. Join us as we move, laugh, and play in a positive and supportive environment. Suggestions for home activities will be provided so you can bring the power of yoga into your home, as well. So let us express, play, learn, and empower! NAMASTE!
Class will be taught by Jessica Hawkins, M.A., CCC-SLP. Jessica is a nationally certified and state licensed speech-language pathologist and certified children’s yoga teacher with 12 years of experience of working in pediatric settings.
