Kristin Sorenson / PMH-NP, FNP-C Psychiatric Mental Health/Family Nurse Practitioner

After majoring in English, Classical Literature and Language her first time around, Kristin realized what really interested her was working closely with people in a clinical setting. She graduated from Rochester Community College, Rochester, Minnesota in 1993 with an Associate Degree in Nursing. Kristin worked in an oncology and acute psychiatric setting until she took some time to stay home with her young children. Five years later, Kristin returned to school where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2002 at Syracuse University. She received her Master of Science in Clinical Research Management in 2006 from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Kristin continued her training and received a Postmasters Certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2008 and another in 2015 as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, both from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

As an RN, she worked in Psychiatry, Oncology, Rehabilitation and Clinical Research. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, she worked in a busy outpatient Oncology Hematology clinic for almost 10 years. Kristin continues to work as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in both outpatient and residential settings. She works with children and adolescents who have been placed in foster care and men and woman who are in treatment for substance use.  Kristin also volunteers at a local high school completing sports physicals once a year and with Habitat for Humanity helping build homes for those who are committed to home ownership, but who need a hand up.

Kristin appreciates the opportunity to work with clients of all ages, and she welcomes those who are feeling down, anxious, having difficulty focusing or controlling behavior and those who are concerned with alcohol and drug use. She also works with those who have longstanding psychiatric concerns including PTSD, bipolar, schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders. As a dually-certified Family and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Kristin works with individuals and their families who are dealing with chronic and life-threatening medical conditions including dementia, cancer and Parkinson’s Disease.

Kristin says “I am a nurse first and love spending time with my clients. I will attend closely to your needs and provide a comprehensive treatment plan that will include medication management, therapy and other interventions as indicated.”

She was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota and made her way to Maryland in 2002. She has lived and practiced in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. since then.
